HMONG NEW YEAR §

Hmong New Year is an event for the hmong people of Oroville to gather and celebrate. This annual event is usually around the middle of October, like the 12th or 13th. The New Year is held at Nelson Park behind Nelson Avenue school. During this event there is a lot of dancing and singing. The teens of Oroville show up and perform on stage. Aside from the dancing and singing, there are a lot of stands, like food, video, clothes, toys, and other things too. It’s really fun because you never know who might just show up and what kind of stand there it might be. Plus, people from all over come to this events, you just might meet someone new. Admission is usually about 7 to 10 dollars per car, and if you walk it’s FREE. The New Year is an all day event and it goes on for 2 whole days.

After the daytime fun at the New Year, there is an after party at the municipal. At the after party there is a lot more dancing and singing, but this time all the people dance too, instead of just the performers. The party starts from about 7 pm to 10 or 11 pm. Just like the new year, you have to pay to get in. Admission is about 10 dollars per person.
